From US Congressman David Schweikert
Representing Arizona's 6th District
MYTH:
REPUBLICANS ARE BLOCKING THE RESOUCES FOR UNEMPLYED INDIVIDUALS.
FACT:
Republicans made multiple offers to pass targeted relief for additional resources in August.
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CARES Act provided an additional $600 a week as pandemic unemployment assistance for individuals unable to safely work. The additional relief expired on July 31st. Since the expiration, Republicans have offered multiple times to pass a piece of legislation that would provide immediate relief until a relief package could be negotiated. Democrats have rejected each of these offers made by Republicans.
To provide Americans with relief we do not have to pass massive spending packages. I am advocating for Congress to pass a strand-alone extension of resources for individuals who are unable to safely return to work right now. This is something we can help with immediately.
